Time Zone Difference Calculator comparing time differences between New York, London and Tokyo

Time Zone Difference Calculator

Convert a selected local date and time between named time zones. The result includes the target date, time and the difference at that instant. Using a date matters because daylight-saving changes can alter the gap between two cities during the year.

Calculation runs in your browser. This form does not submit the entered details to the site.

How the calculation works

The calculator uses your browser’s built-in Internationalization time-zone database through Intl.DateTimeFormat. It resolves the entered local time to an instant, then formats that instant in the target zone. Times that do not exist or occur twice during a clock change are rejected instead of silently guessed.

Worked example

At 12:00 in Karachi on 15 January 2026, UTC is 07:00 and London is 07:00. London’s difference from Karachi changes when the UK is on daylight-saving time. A target zone can also show the preceding or following calendar date.

Local time and an instant are different

A wall-clock label needs a date and a zone before it identifies an instant. During a backward clock change, the same local hour can occur twice. During a forward change, some local times are skipped. That is why this calculator checks for both cases.

Planning an international meeting

Choose the actual meeting date rather than assuming today’s offset applies year-round. Check the converted weekday and date before sharing the time. If participants travel, specify a named zone such as Asia/Karachi rather than only saying “my time”.

Important limitations

Results depend on the time-zone data shipped with your browser. Governments can change clock rules, so update the browser and confirm critical bookings with the organiser. This tool covers the named zones in the menu and does not interpret ambiguous abbreviations such as CST.

Frequently asked questions

Does it account for daylight saving?

Yes, using the browser’s named-zone data for the selected date.

Why is a clock-change time rejected?

An absent or repeated local time cannot be mapped uniquely without an additional choice.
