Half Birthday Calculator
A half birthday is a useful informal milestone six calendar months after your birth date. This calculator finds your first half birthday and explains its convention. It is suitable for a baby’s six-month celebration or for checking the date six months after a birthday.
Use the Half Birthday Calculator
How the calculation works
Add six calendar months to the entered date while retaining the day number where possible. When the target month is shorter, use its final valid day. This is a calendar-month convention, not an instruction to add exactly 182 or 183 days.
Worked example
31 August 2025 becomes 28 February 2026. 31 August 2023 becomes 29 February 2024 because the target February is in a leap year. An ordinary date such as 10 January 2026 becomes 10 July 2026.
Calendar months versus half a year in days
A year can contain 365 or 366 days, and its first six months do not always have the same length as its last six. For celebrations, choosing a calendar date is often more practical than dividing a year’s day count by two.
Planning a later half birthday
To find the date six months after a later annual birthday, enter that birthday date. The result will use the same clamping rule. Write down your chosen convention if the original birthday is at the end of a long month.
Important limitations
There is no universal legal half-birthday rule. This tool shows the first milestone after the date you enter, rather than guessing the next recurring celebration. A baby’s developmental care should be based on clinical guidance; premature babies may also need corrected-age context.
