Age Calculator by Date of Birth
Enter a full date of birth and a reference date to calculate completed calendar years, months and days. The tool also shows total elapsed days. It answers “How old was I on this date?” without assuming that every month contains 30 days or every year contains 365 days.

How the calculation works
The calculation first finds completed calendar months, then the days left after the last monthly anniversary. Twelve completed months make one completed year. If the corresponding day is missing in a shorter month, that anniversary is clamped to the final day of the month. This explicit convention keeps month-end examples reproducible.
Worked example
From 1 January 2000 to 5 October 2026, the result is 26 years, 9 months and 4 days. From 31 January 2026 to 28 February 2026, this tool reports one completed calendar month. A system that borrows days differently may label that second interval differently.
Age on a past or future date
Change the reference date to the day you want to check. A future reference date is useful for planning; a reference date before the birth date is rejected. The displayed result does not silently replace the reference date with today.
Why total days and calendar age differ
Calendar age describes anniversaries, while total days count the interval between the two dates. Leap years and different month lengths mean that multiplying years by 365 cannot reliably reproduce elapsed days. Keep the unit that the application actually asks for.
Important limitations
Use the date printed on the official birth record. This is calendar arithmetic, not proof of legal eligibility. An admission, pension or examination authority may use its own cutoff and anniversary rules. For 29 February and month-end births, confirm those rules before relying on a result.
Frequently asked questions
Is the birth date included in total elapsed days?
No. Identical start and reference dates give zero elapsed days.
Does it need a birth time?
No. This tool compares dates only and does not calculate age to the second.
