Birthstone Calculator
Choose a birth month to look up modern birthstone choices. Some months have one common stone, while others have several alternatives. The result is a jewellery tradition, not a medical treatment or evidence that a gemstone affects luck, health or personality.
Use the Birthstone Calculator
How the calculation works
The lookup uses the month-based birthstone choices listed by the Gemological Institute of America. It does not need the year or day of birth. Alternative stones can reflect different traditions and modern additions to jewellery lists.
Worked example
A September selection returns sapphire. June offers pearl, alexandrite or moonstone; December offers turquoise, tanzanite or zircon. More than one valid option means you can choose according to appearance, budget and intended use.
Choosing a birthstone gift
Start with the recipient’s preferred colour and jewellery style. Ask a jeweller about the exact gemstone, any treatments, suitable care and whether the setting suits everyday wear. The calculator simply narrows the month-based choices.
Month-based traditions and zodiac traditions
This lookup is based on calendar months, whereas zodiac dates divide the year differently. Do not assume that a zodiac stone and a modern monthly birthstone must be the same. Keep the tradition you are using explicit when comparing lists.
Important limitations
Different cultural and historical lists can vary. Gemstone identity, treatments and durability are separate questions from its association with a month. A month match is not a certification of a particular piece of jewellery.
Frequently asked questions
Can one month have several birthstones?
Yes. The lookup includes commonly listed alternatives.
Do I need to enter my full birth date?
No. The month is enough for this month-based lookup.
