Retirement Age Calculator
Calculate the date you reach a chosen retirement age and the calendar time remaining from a reference date. You supply the age appropriate to your own plan or scheme. This page does not assume that one national retirement age applies to every worker.
Use the Retirement Age Calculator
How the calculation works
The milestone is the birth date plus the chosen number of calendar years. A 29 February birthday is clamped to 28 February if the target year has no leap day. The remaining interval uses completed calendar years, months and days under the same month-end clamping convention.
Worked example
Someone born on 1 January 1990 reaches a chosen age of 60 on 1 January 2050. From 5 October 2026, that date is 23 years, 2 months and 27 days away. Choosing 65 instead moves the milestone to 1 January 2055.
Retirement date versus pension entitlement
Stopping work and qualifying for a pension are different decisions. The calculator supplies a date for a chosen age, not a decision about contributions, benefits or early-retirement reductions. Keep scheme documents alongside your planning notes.
Use a reference date for planning
Change the reference date to compare the time remaining at a future review point. If the chosen milestone has already passed, the tool says so. It does not assume that you retired on that date or calculate an investment return.
Important limitations
A calculated birthday is not pension eligibility advice. Employer rules, pension contributions, service length, occupation and jurisdiction may affect the actual date. Verify your chosen age and cutoff convention with the responsible employer or pension authority.
Frequently asked questions
Is age 60 the official retirement age for everyone?
No. The default is an editable planning input, not a legal rule.
Does this calculate pension payments?
No. It calculates the chosen age milestone and time remaining.
